How do I use a flash drive?

Flash drives (also known as USB drives, thumb drives, mini-drives) have a USB connection at one end. This is plugged into the USB port on the computer. Dell computers have a USB port on the front of the computer as well as the back panel. Most other computers have a USB port on the back panel. Once you plug the flash drive into the USB port, click twice on My Computer. The flash drive will appear in your list of hard drives. Copy and paste, Save to or Drag documents or graphics to the flash drive. When finished, look in the lower right corner of your screen. You will see a green arrow icon called Safely Remove Hardware. Right click on the icon. Choose Stop. Choose USB Mass Storage Device and choose OK. Choose Close. You may now unplug your flash drive.

How do I troubleshoot my speakers or headphones?

First check the connection and make sure they are plugged tightly into the correct port. Are the speakers plugged into a power outlet and the speakers turned on? Is the volume on the speaker turned up? Look for the speaker icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Left click on the icon to bring up the volume control and check the volume level.  Right click the speaker icon and choose Open Volume Control. Make sure Mute is unchecked. If none of these steps help, contact the Help Desk.
